“In an ideal world we’d all eat organic food, drink purified water and breathe clean air. However, this isn’t the case, and that’s why there’s a place for green supplements to be incorporated into a healthy diet.”
Nutrition Australia spokeswoman Aloysa Hourigan
Since you’re reading this blog, we can safely assume that you are more than a little familiar with the vegetables crowding nature’s larder, from broccoli and beetroot to cabbage and kale.
While it’s true that not all vegetarians necessarily indulge in a surplus of vegetables, it’s also evident that non-meaters are more likely than their carnivorous peers to hit their daily quota of greens.
DO YOU MANAGE 10-a-DAY?
We learned that 10 portions of fruit and vegetables per day should be the target if we wish to enjoy the most health benefits. Indeed, the study by Imperial College London suggested 10-a-day could prevent as many as 7.8 million premature deaths worldwide each year.
Since it was double the previous recommendation, the media went wild for the story, though the guidance itself fairly divided opinion. “It sounds a bit much” was a common refrain, with others doubting the projected advantages associated with the lifestyle change.
Specifically, the finding that 800g of fruit and veg each day could cut stroke risk by 33%, cardiovascular disease risk by 28%, heart disease risk by 24% and risk of premature death by 31%.
At this stage, it’s difficult to determine how many took the guidance on board and how many gave it short shrift.
There’s little doubt that the majority of people consider 10-a-day a struggle, particularly given that just 18% of us manage the old target of five so perhaps a little extra help is required.
WHAT ARE GREEN FOOD SUPPLEMENTS?
Green food supplements are rich in valuable nutrients including polyphenols and antioxidants, as well as vitamins and minerals.
Green food powders are usually added to water or natural fruit juice to make, in essence, a super-healthy low-calorie drink.
Green Food Supplements are compacted, distilled and concentrated combinations of vegetables, fruits, algae, cereal grasses, and botanicals.
Adding it to your diet helps you to save time and makes it easier to prepare a super healthy smoothie before dashing out the door in the morning. Not only that but because of the manner in which they’re processed, green powders include a far wider range of foods than your blender could ever hope to accommodate!
Perfect for our busy and hectic modern lifestyle.
INTRODUCING VIBRANT HEALTH’S GREEN VIBRANCE:
Vibrant Health is one of the main players in this field. Founded in California in 1992, its first product was Green Vibrance – a fusion of 38 ingredients selected to promote detoxification and supply appreciable antioxidant protection.
Green Vibrance remains the company’s flagship supplement to this day, though it has undergone many improvements since the early ‘90s. 38 ingredients have evolved to over 70, and now each serving yields 25 billion live probiotics from 12 different strains.
Green Vibrance is designed to nurture our ancient Palaeolithic biochemistry, which means an astounding array of foods is included in the formula.
A full complement of cereal grasses, fruits and vegetables are provided, and many of the ingredients are also certified organic. This is the case with all seven cereal grasses (wheat grass, oat grass, barley grass etc) and also a number of vegetables and ‘life-preserving’ antioxidant extracts.
Incidentally, ingredients are chosen to support four core foundations of health: Nutrition, Digestion, Circulation, and Immunity.
Unlike some greens formulas whose labels don’t disclose actual nutrient amounts, Green Vibrance is fully transparent and provides an honest breakdown of every ingredient: 800g of wheatgrass, 1,000mg of chlorella, 400mg of tomato fruit…
As such, you know exactly what you’re getting from your green drink. This is also the case for the vitamins and minerals.
Peruse the label and you’ll learn the following:
One scoop of greens contains 80% of your daily vitamin C, 100% of your daily iodine and 250% of your recommended vitamin D.
Since much of the goodness of veggies is down to their micronutrient content, adding a glass of Green Vibrance to your daily intake is a convenient way of hitting 10-a-day.
HOW DOES GREEN VIBRANCE TASTE?
One thing some people might struggle with is the taste: Vibrant Health haven’t loaded their formula with stevia or other sweeteners, so Green Vibrance has a rather earthy flavour.
That said, there’s no harm in adding some fruit into the blender, or even some fresh juice, to make the drink more palatable. As with any smoothie, you can experiment – as we have – to find out what works for you.
Turn your smoothie into Super Smoothie with some great recipes developed by Vegetarian Department using Green Vibrance – Avocado and Melon Smoothie Bowl and Super Green Pear Apple and Chia Seeds Smoothie.
Eating the same handful of fruits and veggies every day is good, but variety is better – particularly when it comes to the microbial diversity in our gut.
With Green Vibrance, we can digest a broad number of super greens, support better energy levels and, because vegetables are highly alkaline, help balance dietary acids.
A 30-day supply of Green Vibrance powder will set you back £39.75, which is a little pricier than most comparable products. However, bearing in mind the inferior spread of nutrients in other formulas, and the generous probiotic content in Vibrant Health’s product, it represents excellent value for money.
Especially if you currently buy a Vitamin D supplement.
